DR. GURU BETAGERI

Advisory Board

Dr. Guru Betageri received his PhD in Pharmaceutics from the University of Alberta, Canada.  He taught nine years at Auburn University before joining WesternU in 1998. Dr. Betageri served as Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He also served as an Associate Dean at Graduate College of Biomedical Sciences (GCBS) at WesternU starting in the Fall 2008. He is currently an Interim Dean at GCBS. Dr. Betageri’s expertise is in the area of liposome drug delivery systems. He has obtained grant support from Federal agencies as well as more than 25 pharmaceutical companies for his research activities. His contract research work with pharmaceutical companies is mainly in the area of solid dosage forms. He was instrumental in the formulation and development of several products on the market. He teaches pharmaceutics to Pharm.D. students and preformulation, product development and novel drug delivery systems to graduate students. Dr. Betageri has published more than 50 original research papers in refereed journals and presented more than 100 papers at national and international meetings. He has been an invited speaker at various national and international conferences and pharmaceutical companies. He serves as consultant to various pharmaceutical companies in the US and internationally. He is a reviewer for more than 12 pharmaceutical journals and sits on the editorial board of several. He is a co-author on the book entitled, “Liposome Drug Delivery,” and he has co-authored several book chapters. He has been awarded seven US patents. Dr. Betageri is a member of AAPS, CRS and Phospholipid Society.
